Giants Causeway- World Heritage Site

 Europe-United Kingdom-Northern Ireland
This is a unusual view of the Giants Causeway on the Antrim coast. From the air. A nice warm day here packed with tourists. This is the only World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland.

There is a postbox at the Giants Causeway. But did not drop it there due to the changes of not getting postmarked. So on the coast was in a beautiful village of Cushendun.  The girl in the Post office told me it was her first day and had no stamps ! I had already bought the stamps previously. My only request was the card to be postmarked at the post office  and go in the mail . This also has the machine cancel .

This is taken on the Giants Causeway. A beautiful day

Rathlin Island - Northern Ireland

 Europe-United Kingdom-Northern Ireland-Rathlin Island
An Island I wanted to visit for some time . This is in the area of the North of Northern Ireland. Took a 30 minute ride on a boat . Stayed about 4 hours on the island and it was very interesting with a  small museum . The Puffins shown here are only there from April to July, so were gone when I arrived. Still a nice location to walk

Nice to see a local postmark . A small post office on the island and some new stamps .

Bushmills Distillery - Northern Ireland

 Europe-United Kingdom-Northern Ireland-Bushmills
The is the oldest whiskey distillery in the World. Granted a license in 1608. A wonderful tour lasts about 90 mins and very interesting. Something to taste at the end of course....

Posted this at a magical Post Office in the village of Bushmills. Very helpful staff and some " Special " stamps as they call them in the UK for sale.

Northern Ireland - United Kingdom

Europe-Northern Ireland-United Kingdom I bought this card during my visit to Mount Stewart House and Gardens. . It has a number of heritage sites to visit . Many of these I am not familiar with so this card works well as a future tourist planner.

I managed to get the postmaster to postmark my cards for this trip . I was tired of UK cards coming back with no postmarks. Featuring new wildlife stamps.

Newcastle Co.Down , Northern Ireland

 Europe-Northern Ireland-Newcastle-Co.Down
I had not spend much time in this part of Northern Ireland before . It is on the East side just after the border. A seaside area with beautiful surrounding countryside.

As I have said before finding regional stamps in Northern Ireland is not easy. I was lucky to find this stamp in a remote Post Office. This stamp was only issued in later 2020 .

Europe-United Kingdom-Northern Ireland-Co.Down . This is the hotel I stayed in . It is very famous and was opened in 1898  when Newcastle was a railway stop on the Dublin-Belfast line. No longer there. But the Slieve Donard Hotel certainly is. Nearby attractions include the scenic Donard Park, beach and promenade.

Featuring stamps with Paul McCarthy of the Beatles and Wings fame. I think I had the Ram album on the right when we all had LPs and record players.

Belfast - Northern Ireland

Europe-Norther n Ireland-Belfast Here we have Belfast City Hall. Built in 1906. It is a beautiful building and it stands right in the centre of Belfast. I have been lucky to been there at a reception meal event for a dinner when I was a Badminton Umpire  many years ago.

It is challenging to find Northern Ireland stamps in Northern Ireland . The stamp on the left is the only one I could find . The rest are UK definitive stamps

County Down - Northern Ireland , Donegal -Ireland

Europe-Northern Ireland-Mount Stewart  This is a potential World Heritage Site. Mount Stewart House and Gardens is a very beautiful location to visit. Got a tour of the house where many of the Royal Family have stayed in the past.

A regular Northern Ireland Definitive issue.

Europe-Ireland-Donegal The most Northerly of the provinces of Ireland. A really beautiful county and I dont go here very often as it is up the top of the Island. Great beaches, if only we got the weather to appreciate them .

This fashion stamp was from a booklet .

Northern Ireland

Europe-Northern Ireland-Londonderry  Londonderry has two names. In Republic of Ireland more likely to be called just Derry. It is a famous city and especially known for its 17th century walls around the old city.

A little unusual to get a handstamp on a postcard. So very pleased with that.

Europe-Northern Ireland-Tyrone  A very typical picture of the countryside . It is the largest county in Northern Ireland has not access to the sea. But it is known for its mountains and gentle hills.

This card was posted in Omagh , the main county town in Tyrone.

Belfast Titanic and Gran Canaria

United Kingdom-Northern Ireland-Belfast This is the new Titanic Museum in Belfast . It is fantastic and well worth the visit. I spend a good few hours and still did not have enough time. This is where the iconic Titanic was built.

This is a United Kingdom Christmas stamp . I did not put a Northern Ireland stamp on this card as they have been on previous issues.

Atlantic Ocean-Gran Canaria-Mogan  This is the port on the island. Always visit here for lunch during my stay here. A nice charming fishing village

The Post office had no selection of stamps so just had to do with this one.

Northern Ireland - World Heritage Site.

Europe-Northern Ireland-Co.Antrim  The Giants Causeway the World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland. This is a natural site on the North coast.

This stamp was sold over the counter in a Post office. It is actually a Regional Definitive stamp for England showing a English Oak Tree !

Europe-Northern Ireland-Enniskillen   This is towards the West side of Northern Ireland. It is a very pictureesque part of Northern Ireland and near the boarder with the Republic of Ireland . Here you see the lakes which are very popular and you see quite a few pleasure boats sailing on.

This is a standard United Kingdom stamp , usually the most common stamp sold over the Post Office counters all over the United Kingdom .

Northern Ireland and Ireland

Europe-Northern Ireland-Armagh-Armagh City  This is centre of the Catholic church in Ireland. It has two cathedrals.

This is a United Kingdom stamp featuring a part of Northern Ireland.

Europe-Ireland-Waterford-Waterford City    Here you can see Waterford from the Bridge that you cross into going into Waterford. Waterford is famous for its Glass. Most of the production is now outside Ireland. But still a small outlet to go with and to understand the process of making the Glass.

In 2005 the Tall Ships came to Waterford. So the stamp shows a tall ship.

Europe-Ireland-Tipperary-Clonmel   Clommel is not a very exciting town to visit.

A nice butterfly stamp. This postcard was mailed in Clonmel but processed in Port Laoise which is near the centre of Ireland.

Europe-Northern Ireland-Down-Hillsborough  This area is a very nice town to visit. It is a picturesque Georgian Village with historic landmarks. Just across the border from Ireland.

The stamp on the right is a Northern Ireland Definitive featuring the Giants Causway which is a World Heritage site.

Ireland

Europe-Ireland-Kildare   Kildare and The Curragh the home of Irish racing and also horse training. I think you could see that from this postcard. It is Ireland's flattest county and so very suitable for horses.

Stamp is showing Patrick Kavanagh a well known Irish Poet. The postmarks in Ireland are all based on approx 5 locations. So this one is Central Ireland.

Europe-Ireland-Carlow  This is a Carlow situated on the River Barrow. Good farming land. Not very touristy.

The stamp shows Ulysses by James Joyce.

Europe-Ireland-Dundalk   Situated on the border with Northern Ireland.

This card was posted in Dundalk but still gets a Dublin postmark. Baile atha cliath  is the Irish name for Dublin.

Europe-Ireland-Cavan   There are 26 Counties in The Republic of Ireland. So over time you will see at least one card from every county. Like all Countries some areas are more interesting then others. This part of Ireland Cavan is famous for the Pot holes in the roads. I think it is really a thing of the past !

This stamps is showing a famous painting from The National Art Gallery in Dublin.

Europe-Ireland-Wicklow   This is Glendalough a very famous monastery just south of Dublin. It is a prime tourist attraction in Ireland. You can do a half or full day tour here. Here you see a Round tower. Wicklow is also known as The Garden of Ireland

William Rowan Hamilton a world famous Scientist.

Europe-Northern Ireland-Antrim-Belfast   Here we see the The City Hall in Belfast. When you visit Belfast this building stands out for sure. It was completed in 1906.

Difficult to read the postmark, by the Royal Mail. The stamp shows Glenelly Valley in Northern Ireland
