Rabaul - Bismarck Archipelago

Pacific Ocean-Bismarck Archipelago-Rabaul  This is showing the famous Mount Rabaul and the Tavurur Volcano . Rabaul was the capital of East New Britain province. It was mostly destroyed by falling ash from the volcanic eruption in 1994. The capital was moved to Kokopo 20 km away. There is not much to see here now , but worth coming for the view . 

There is still a small centre in Rabaul and inside one of the shopping centres is a small post office. I had given up on this card as it has taken nearly 6 months to get here. But better late then never. Nice clear cancelation. They had no choice in stamps at this post office. 

Fire Dance - Mask Festival

Pacific Ocean-Bismarck Archipelago-New Britain-Kokopo This is the famous fire dance. Seen this on the last night of my stay in kokopo. But it is not held there and can be in different locations. I think it was about a 45 minute drive from the hotel. Very enjoyable with the dark sky.  

This card got a double set of  postmarks care of the Irish Post office. Luckily the PNG postmark is in a sort of pink colour. The Irish one is ink jet. 

Mask Festival Kokopo

Pacific Ocean-Bismarck Archipelago-Kokopo This is showing another dance from the mask festival which I attended. However I did not see this particular dance when I was there. But the festival went on for 3/4 Days, I was there for two full days. Fantastic to visit. 

Posted this at the very friendly Post office in Kokopo. Glad I brought stamps with me from Port Moresby, as the selection once you go outside the capital is very poor. 

Mask Festival - Kokopo

Pacific Ocean--Bismarck Archipelago-New Britain-Kokopo Visited here especially to go to the Mask festival which is held once a year in July. It was amazing. On the first morning went to the beach and this is exactly what I seen. It was so colourful . Amazing. 

Kokopo is now the main town in East New Britain. Rabaul was mostly destroyed in the volcano eruption in 1994.. There is a post office there as well, but town a lot smaller. Kokopo is 20 km away from Rabaul.

Pacific Ocean-Bismarck Archipelago-New Britain-Kopopo This card is titled Kokopo Beach Bungalow Resort, which is were I stayed. The view however is of Rabaul which was the old capital before it was mostly destroyed my a volcano. This is my favourite part of Papua New Guinea. Lots to see and very safe. 

The Post Office in Kokopo which is the capital of East New Britain , had a very small selection of stamps. The Post office was not busy , but very helpful.
