Porto - Portugal

 Europe-Portugal-Porto
I guess the second city of Portugal. Cant believe I have never been. So much to see. Really enjoyed it here. From the old trams, the river and the great views, not to mention the Port and wonderful food. A city not to be missed.

The main `Post office here had little or no choice with stamps. At least the stamp got cancelled.

Portugal

Europe-Portugal-Lisbon  This is a beautiful arch with clock right in the centre of Lisbon. On my trip there I passed this a number of times and it even looks better in real life.

The Post Office I went to had a full philatelic service and great choice of stamps. It is not always easy to get postmarks here as the last time I was here all my postcards came back unstamped.

Europe-Portugal-Evora   This is my first time here to this charming village outside Lisbon. It is also a World Heritage Site. The main square as shown here was full of activity.

Posted locally with an Evora postmark.

World Heritage Sites-Azores and Portugal

Atlantic Ocean-Azores-Pico Here you can see Mount Pico the highest Mountain in the Azores and Portugal. Around this area visited Volcanic vineyards which is also a World Heritage site. I was lucky on the day , I could nearly see the top .

This card was posted in Sao Raque on the Island of Pico , Azores.

Europe-Portugal-Sintra  The Royal Palace in Sintra is a fantastic site. Well worth the walk at the end up the hill. Lots of different styles of architecture . Inside well furnished. Another World Heritage Site.

I have posted many postcards in Lisbon over the years and most do not end up with a postmark. So this one passed the test.  Was back in Lisbon and on my way to Africa.

Europe

Europe-Portugal-Lisbon  Lisbon the city of 7 hills. On this trip did not see any of Lisbon. But did manage to go back on another trip . A very enjoyable city.

Posted at the airport. Hard to read the postmark. Quite faint.

Europe-Latvia-Riga  This is the city hall square with the house of Blackheads. Remember it well. Also while  here went to the Ice Hockey world championship. My first game.

A great selection of stamps and postmarks to match. The stamp on the right is to celebrate the World Ice hockey championships in Riga.

Europe-Latvia-Jurmala  Jurmala is a spa and seaside town. A short train ride out from Riga. Very nice and liked the style of the wooden buildings.

Not quite sure what these stamps show. Trying to find the post office  in this town was a bit of a drag. But got there in the end.

Europe-Kaliningrad-Kaliningrad    Here we see the cathedral of  Kaliningrad. Got the bus from Riga to here. Most of the older buildings are now gone due to the heavy bombing in the second world war. I felt it was very communist here and more so then what Moscow felt. Lots of Amber around. Went to the Split and the big sand dunes. Fantastic and you also see the bird life. I had a card for that but could not find a post office beside it, so did not mail it.

The stamp on the right commemorates the 750 anniversary of Kaliningrad , which was in 2005. A big post office here. Posted in the main Post office in Kaliningrad.
