London - England

Europe-England-London I guess this shows was England is  famous for. Red telephone boxes and buses. Though you dont see many phone phones in use any more. London one of those great cities always so much to see and enjoy.

These are the latest English "Country " stamps. These have not yet been reprinted with the kings head . But first time for me to use them with barcodes. I did ask for a nice clean crisp postmark and the Post offfice and got one.

Houses of Parliament London- England

Europe-England-London This is the Houses of Parliament in London. Since 1512 the Palace has been the seat of the two houses called "The Lords " and "The Commons". You can also see Big Ben.On this occasion in London I visited the House of Lords and had dinner there and got a tour of the The House of Lords . It was amazing , but no photos allowed in that area.

The main Philatelic office at the Post Office near Trafalgar square is where I get my stamps in London. However it is due to close end of this month , December 2018. I asked for a Regional stamp and this is one of the stamps for England. Hence my reason for having this card listed under England.

England and Morocco

Europe-England-London  Piccadilly Circus , a famous landmark in London. I have often gone around here on a bus , like the ones here.

Again a English Country stamp and a UK stamp. As it often happens in the UK these stamps are not postmarked.

Africa-Morocco-Marrakech One of the cities on my  list to visit for a long time. So once direct flights from Dublin started I took the opportunity to go. It lived up to my expectation. Fully of flavour and atmosphere . Here is the main square as it looks today. The Medina in Marrakech is a World Heritage Site.

The Post office had no choice in stamps, though they showed photos of new issues. But were not available in the Post Offices I visited.

Italy and England

Europe-Italy-Tivoli This is the Villa Adriana in Tivoli. Not as impressive as the gardens , though the town is very nice. The Villa is a World Heritage Site.

I ended up posting this card at the airport. So a Roma Fiumicino Postmark.

Europe-England-London  A old fashioned London bus. I used to love these buses and being able to jump on and off when they were moving. However I see that a new version has it the roads .

On the English stamp there are the three Lions of England. The UK stamp features Peter O Toole a Irish actor in the flim " Lawrence of Arabia "

London -England

Europe -England -London    Over in London for a Weekend trip. Main reason here was a meeting of Travelers Century Club UK/Ireland. Here there are few World fellow travellers so we can discuss new countries and exchange information and talk about past and upcoming trips.. Always a enjoyable day. Below you see a photo of the previous event in September 2013. Since I was younger than I care to remember I always paid a visit to Stanley Gibbons . I have great memories of when I first visited the shop in the Strand and looking over different stamps from all the commonwealth countries. It did my geography no harm. Today I tend to sell more then I buy..

London also means a visit to the West End . This time to see Charlie and the Chocolate factory. London is great for theatre especially musicals.

Finally a trip to the Post office. The main philatelic office for the UK is in Scotland. So in London this is the Post office to visit at Trafalgar square. Here you see some photos of the collectibles section . The Post office used to be the full building now just one end. So my busy trip to London came to a end . On this occasion did not do the tourist sights as had done most of that , but the British Museum is always worth a look . Every time you go you see something new that you had not spotted before.

London and Manchester - England

Europe-United Kingdom-England-London  London one of my favourite cities, but can be expensive if you are not careful. Here is the Imperial War Museum , a great museum to visit.

Mount Pleasant is the main Post office sorting office in London .

Europe-England-Manchester  I have been many times. One of those English cities that I would say that the people are more enjoyable  than the city itself. This is the Central Library .

This may have a English Oak tree stamp , but one of those occasions when there is very little to see postmark wise.

The Jurassic Coast-England

Europe-England-Dorset  Here you see pictures from the Coast of Dorset. The bottom left is the most famous part.

This stamp is from a Miniature sheet featuring England. Here you see the English Flag.

Europe-England-Lyme Regis   Here you see the lovely old town of Lyme Regis in Dorset

The stamp on the right features another symbol of England "The Lion".

United Kingdom- Isles of Scilly, England and Lundy.

Europe-England-Isles of Scilly-St.Marys-Hugh Town   What an adventure getting  here. Took a small plane from Bristol onto a lovely little airport. All around here the water is marine Blue  and when you show anyone the photos of the beaches here they think you are in the Caribbean. One of the Gems of England.

The mail is processed on the mainland . This is a English regional stamp. The Post offices here all double up as shops. Nice narrow shopping streets with loads of character.

Europe-England-Isles of Scilly-Tresco-New Grimbsey  A beautiful Island. You get here by boat from St.Mary's. Well worth the visit . Here is Abbey Gardens on Tresco . Like going to old England.

Somehow this Postcard got a Postmark from the actual Post Office on Tresco. Pretty rare to see that on a Postcard now days.

Europe-United Kingdom-England-Devon-Exmouth  Visiting friends here. Very nice to just relax and walk around.

You may wonder why I have some Postcards listed as England and others as United Kingdom. It is down to the stamps used. If they are Regional Stamps , that is stamps especially issued for the Regions ie , England , Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Well then it is as listed for the Country ie England. But if they don't , like this one above well then it is listed as :United Kingdom.

Europe-United Kingdom-England-Dartmore  Dartmore is an area of mooreland in South Devon, England.

Here we have to interesting stamps! The one on the left is the machin Definitives issued by the United Kingdom since 1967. The stamp on the right is the designer Mr Machin who designed the stamps.

Europe-England-Lundy Island    Lundy Island is in the Bristol Channel. A boat ride out. I think about 90 minutes. An interesting Island to visit. Walking up to the Lighthouse , the Church and also a very  nice pub with good pub food.

Lund issues its own "Local Stamps". This is for use to the mainland. They are not for international mail. So the printed postmark on the right is for international mail and the two local stamps on the left are for Lundy mail. There is a little Shop on the Island that sells essentials including the Lundy stamps. There is a red postbox on the Island to mail the postcard.

Europe

Europe-France-Paris. Well what can one say. Every one should at least visit Paris once. What more could you ask for The food, the feel of the place and just how romantic it is. Here shows a night view of the Eiffel tower. Every time you visit Paris you can find somewhere new to see. Many areas  of Paris is a World Heritage Site.

Posted in Paris. I find on the main post offices you can get a great selection of stamps . Most European countries post offices only have a small selection. So well done France. The stamp here shows the Millau Viaduct the highest bridge in the world. It was designed by Norman Foster.

Europe-UNESCO- Paris. This postcard is showing the UNESCO  headquarters  in Paris . I visited here and got a special pass in. They have a great selection of UNESCO ( United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation) of Publications and information. I also visited the special exhibition of works of Art on display . These are from different members of UNESCO. Well worth a visit.

UNESCO issues its own stamps in connection with the French post office. So this stamp has UNESCO  symbol on the bottom left side. This stamp was mailed at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris itself. There is a post box within the building. UNESCO has its own place instead of a country due to the issue of the stamps.

Europe-Germany-Cologne. Showing a view over the Rhine of Cologne and its famous world heritage site of the Cathedral. This is certainly a well worth place to visit.. I have to say in January it never looks like this. A World Heritage Site.

A very clear postmark of Kolm. Got this stamp in the main philatelic office in Cologne. As a bonus got a stamp of the Koln Dom , ie Cologne Cathedral.

Europe-Germany-Düsseldorf  I used this airport a lot for connections in Europe, especially going to Cologne. Showing a shot of different images of the airport.

Düsseldorf mailed at the airport.

Europe-England-Birmingham  Today Birmingham is a major international commercial  centre in England. I have been in many times always in January for business.  Always quite cold at that time. This postcard shows the 18th century canal network.

This is the definitive regional stamp for England. Featuring the English  oak tree.
