White Pass Route - Carcross Canada

North America-Canada-Yukon-Carcross Had a day trip out here by a mix of train and coach. Really enjoyed it . Stopped in Carcross for a few hours . This White pass route is well known and famous.

On the day I got here , the post office closed early. I was planning on sticking this card with a $10 bill under the door, but they told me in the gift shop it would not work!! . So I gave it to them and they said they would post it for me. A nice cancellation.

Victoria - British Columbia

North America-Canada-Vancouver Island-Victoria My final card from Victoria. This beautiful sunny day setting was exactly like it was on the day I was here. Lovely gardens and well kept streets. Well worth the trip from Vancouver

I had ran out of stamps so just purchased these stamps from the local post office. No other selection available. No postmark on this one.

Empress Hotel - Vancouver Island

North America-Canada-Vancouver Island-Victoria This is the famous Empress hotel where I had afternoon tea. It was very nice, but nothing we would not have in Europe. But loved the history of the hotel .

This card past the Canadian Postal system with no cancel. Not the first time .

Victoria British Columbia

North America-Canada-Victoria  It is the Parliament Building for British Columbia. It is an impressive site especially coming by boat from Vancouver. Very well maintained city

A standard Definitive stamp. I posted this locally and at least it got a postmark unlike the rest.

Vancouver Cruise Port

North America-Canada-Vancouver This is the stepping stone to my next trip Alaska . So this postcard showing a cruise ship is perfect. Starting a Holland America cruise. My last one with them was around South America. I had seen quite a bit of Vancouver on my last two trips. Liked the city and the vibe.

Visited a main Post office. Very modern looking and had a full selection of stamps. One showing 50 years since the moon landing. I remember watching that on TV in blank and white. Those were the days.....

Calgary - Canada

North America-Canada-Calgary Had a new direct flight from Dublin to Calgary and then on to Vancouver. So only a airport stop. I had always wanted to visit  here, but could not do on this time.

Posted this card in Vancouver when I arrived there as could not buy any stamps at Calgary airport to mail the card from there.

`Alberta and British Colombia - Canada

North America-Canada-Jasper   What a wonderful sight this going through the Rockies . The train is the ideal way to see this wilderness. Pure joy. The weather was great and so much to see . On the train there is a carriage with a glass roof so you can really get a crystal clear view. The National Park in Jasper is a World Heritage Site.

At this stop had a few hours to walk around Jasper. So decided to take time out and have lunch here. They give you a time to get back on the train. When I got back on the train , it had only gone out about 10 minutes when it stopped. Someone had missed the train. So the train stopped and the passenger got on. In Canada there seems to be so many different postmarks types. Here we have a circular cancellation.

North America-Canada-Vancouver  I arrived in Vancouver to be met by my friends in Canada. One of them is the most widely travelled Canadian , who lives in Canada. We have shared a cabin on some of our Antarctic trips. His wife does not like ships.. !! Vancouver is such a nice city and I was told you could swim in the morning and ski in the afternoon.

What a unusual cancellation here with strikes and laser. So at least my last postcard in this Canadian trip has a cancellation.

Manitoba and Saskatchewan- Canada

North America-Canada-Winnipeg   Came here by plane from Toronto. This was the start of my rail journey across Canada. Did not see a great deal of the city.

A lot of nice Canadian stamps here, but unfortunately no postmark. I usually do not keep cards in my collection without postmarks, but some times one makes an exception.

North America-Canada-Saskatoon  This is the the VIA rail train I took across Canada. It was great . Loved the different textures of the landscape and the views. A great journey.

I posted this card during one of the stops in Saskatoon . Very colourful stamps. At least here got a cancellation.

Toronto and Montreal - Canada

North America-Canada-Toronto  Toronto was one of those cities I had heard so much about but never been to . So a good place to start on my Canadian trip. Very friendly , but not as much to see as I had anticipated. However, I had good friends here and enjoyed the city and its sights.

One of my friends in Toronto is a stamp collector. So he took my postcard over to the Post office and asked for it to be hand stamped. He told me other wise there may not be any cancellation on the stamps. I like the definitive Canadian stamps , very colourful.

North America-Canada-Montreal  Got here by car. Interesting to see a French part of Canada. At least I could help ordering the food when here with my friends.

I cant quite work out if this stamp got a cancellation or not. There is a suggestion of ink on the right side of the stamp. Pity I did not get a clear Montreal Postmark.

Prince Edward Island and Canada

North America-Prince Edward Island-Wood Islands  This is the ship I took with a car between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Another famous Canadian and some walruses.

North America-Prince Edward Island-Charlottetown  This postcard shows a overview of Prince Edward Island also known as PEI. I loved this Island. The colour of the soil and the sunsets were fantastic. Here you see the house of "Anne of Green Gables " This is a best selling Canadian novel. Well you see this book every where here.

Posted in Charlottetown the capital of Prince Edward Island.

North America-Prince Edward Island-Charlottetown  This is a famous building . Here in 1864 Province house hosted  a conference which resulted in Canadian Confederation . This is right downtown.

I like the way the laser postmark is printed in English and French.

North America-Prince Edward Island-Borden-Carlton   This is located at the foot of the Confederation Bridge which you can see here on the Postcard. Sad to say goodbye to PEI. Went over by ship and back by the bridge .

Glad to see a postmark that clearly has PEI on it .

North America-Canada-Nova Scotia-Springhill  One of the main reasons to visit this region was to visit  The Anne Murray Centre. Anne is a famous Canadian singer. I have listened to her for years and years.. So it was a great thrill to visit here. Anne has mostly retired from singing now.

A special Postmark at the Anne Murray centre. A fantastic end to a great trip to Canada and  the surrounding area.

Canada and St.Pierre Miquelon

North America-Canada-Nova Scotia-Halifax  My second trip to Canada. First time was to Vancouver. Now to the Maritimes. I was amazed when I heard the accents here . A lot of the sounds were very Irish .

This is a very special cancellation. The stamp on the right is the USA  stamp and is a joint issue with Canada. It is postmarked in Washington DC on May 28 when I was there. I then went to Canada with the same card and with the Canada stamp on the left. So not often you see a postcard with a joint issue correctly used . A nice pictorial postmark was available at the Post office in Halifax.

North America-Canada-Nova Scotia-Halifax  Here you can see a lot of the well known sights in Halifax. A very beautiful area . Was a great time to visit late May. Went to see a  museum dealing with the titanic and also the maritime museum.

Don't care to much for these laser postmarks that Canada uses . But I do like the stamps featuring famous Canadians.

North America-St.Pierre and Miquelon-St.Pierre  Arrived here from Halifax by plane. Here is St;Pierre the town. Near impossible to find a taxi   from the airport. I guess they don't get to many tourists end of May. Here is a photo of the town . The Post office is the building furthest out in the sea with the red roof. Enjoyed this place and learnt of its history . Also a chance to have some real French food.

Like these very clear postmarks. SPM tends to issue quite large stamps. Here is a typical wooden building you may see here.

North America-St.Pierre and Miquelon-St.Pierre   These sights remind me of a tour I took . Had to go on a boat to get to this part of St.Pierre. Very wild . Stepping back in time.

Here again is a typical SPM stamp. Beautiful to look at and very well drawn.

North America-Canada-Nova Scotia-Pictou  A replica of the ship Hector . Originally sailed here  from Scotland in 1773 . Stopped at this shop . The postcard looks like the real scene here.

Looks like this stamp got a laser  and a regular postmark.
