Shetland Islands Antarctica

Antarctica-Chilean Antarctica-Base Eduardo Frei  As this card shows the Base is on the Shetland Islands. I can still remember how cold it felt with the wind.

This is my final card from Antarctica . Since I have been to all parts now it is not easy to pick out my favourite. But the two stand outs would be South Georgia and the Huts in the New Zealand Ross Sea. I like this stamp showing a Elephant seal and marked Antarctica Chilena.

Chile Antarctica Territory

Antarctica-Chile Antarctica-Base Eduardo Frei I got this card when in Punta Arenas. Liked that it said Territory of Antarctica Chile. Here you can see the base .

These are the same design of stamps I used when I did my first visit. At least here they have the official Postmark. Note that there is no date on the postmark, it is only when it gets to Punta Arenas that the date is applied.

Chile Antarctica- Base Eduardo Frei

Antarctica-Chilean Antarctica-Base Eduardo Frei I wished the base area did look like this, But when I visited it was summer and very little snow. Though it was cold.

This card has taken a little over 3 months to get here. But well worth the wait.  I had been to an Antarctic station before that was from Chile. But no Post office. So it completes my Antarctica Posts from - United Kingdom, Argentina, Chile,France, Australia, New Zealand and Norway.

Chile Antarctica

The background to this trip was the first time I visited Antarctica I did visit a Chilean Scientific station. These stations often have a Post office included. However it that case it did not. So I could not mail a postcard out.. So here I am back..

Delighted to visit the Post office . Fellow members on the trip stand by.

The Post office in Chile Antarctica is not open every day. In fact the day I was here it was closed. However I managed to hunt down the Postmaster and got it open .

Chilean Base Eduardo Frei Base on King George Island.

This is February 2018 - Summer time not much snow on the Island itself

One of my photos of a penguin coming out of the water.

Post office photo again Eduardo Frei . King George Island

Enjoyed watching the penguins. This was a full day overnight trip.

Antarctica

Antarctica-Argentine Antarctica-Decepcion Station   My first stop in Antarctica. A fantastic sight Well worth all of the Russian Icebreaker rolling in the night. Just pure white everywhere. No photos could do this place justice.

Posted on the Decepcion Base on Deception Island.

Antarctica-Gabriel de Castilla Station Quite a lot of penguins around .

This Postcard was handstamped at the Base. There is no Post Office here , so not really official , but I thought I would show it .

Antarctica-Chilean Antarctica-Gabriel Gonzalez Videla Station   This is a very accurate view of what you will see in this part of Antarctica.

There is no Post office at this base. So this is just a base stamp . Not official so will want to send a card from a Chilean Base with a Post Office.

Antarctica-Palmer Station   This is a view from Palmer Station  a United States base. Not often visited as they limit the number of ships that can arrive per year. Had great burgers here ,the cook was from Alaska.

I just used the base stamp here. So this card was not posted either. The United States does not  claim any part of Antarctica , but they also do not recognise any other claim .

Antarctica-British Antarctic Territory-Port Lockroy   This building is not too far away from Palmer station the US base. But one needs a ship to get between the two. Loads of Gentoo penguins here.

Arrived here about 10.30pm at night. Still  bright . The Post office here was mad busy. The ship I was on only had 100 on board but they were still dealing with the mail from other visitors earlier on. A great Post office to visit.
